[SIP #11] Ecosystem Campaigns – Season 5

1. Abstract

Streaming Programmatic Rewards (SPR) has, over four seasons, successfully decentralised SUP ownership and supported the growth of the Superfluid ecosystem. As the ecosystem matures, Season 5 continues distribution of SUP to ecosystem applications and their users, while refining allocation methodology, reducing reward concentration, easing onboarding for new projects, and improving alignment with long-term protocol health.

2. Type

Non-Constitutional

3. Motivation

SPR has been instrumental in supporting established ecosystem applications and enabling new projects to launch and scale. As usage patterns have evolved, the DAO has an opportunity to refine how SPR emissions are deployed in order to:

  • Support the continued growth of established applications
  • Increase the spread and reduce concentration of rewards among ecosystem users
  • Make it easier for new projects to onboard and experiment
  • Improve the effectiveness and longevity of SUP emissions

4. Rationale

Season 5 introduces targeted process and parameter refinements to address the above objectives by:

  • Continuing support for established ecosystem applications
  • Encouraging broader and more sustainable user participation
  • Lowering friction for new projects entering the ecosystem
  • Improving alignment between incentives and sustained usage
  • Involving experienced ecosystem builders more directly in stewardship

These changes strengthen SPR while remaining fully compatible with existing mechanics and governance processes.

5. Key Terms

  • Streaming Programmatic Rewards (SPR): DAO mechanism for distributing SUP to users of ecosystem applications and projects.
  • Ecosystem Campaigns: Application or project specific incentive programs funded via SPR.
  • Established Project Campaigns: Campaigns managed by ecosystem applications already established in SPR [currently includes: Banger, Degen Dogs, FlowState, Gardens, Giveth, GoodDollar, Nerite, Streme, SuperBoring]
  • New Project Campaigns: Campaigns managed by projects new to SPR or recently launched.
  • Community Campaigns: Campaigns focused on broad Superfluid community engagement, managed by Superfluid Foundation Marketing team.
  • Ecosystem Steering Group: A new steering group to be established by the Superfluid Foundation, comprising representatives from established ecosystem projects, supporting review and onboarding of new projects and advising on the broader ecosystem. The group will act in an advisory capacity only and will support the Foundation by reviewing New Project Campaign submissions and helping identify promising new integrations. The group does not control budget allocation or make binding decisions. Participation is voluntary and intended to recognise the experience and contributions of long-standing ecosystem builders.

6. Specifications

a. Established Project Campaigns

  • Budget: 10,000,000 SUP
  • Invitation to submit Campaign Ideas: To be issued by Foundation team, lasting 1 week
  • Eligible Campaign Ideas: Those submissions deemed to have provided sufficient information to indicate the project/app/team is ready to integrate with the SPR system and manage a successful campaign. Submissions not deemed eligible in this round are welcome to resubmit in future rounds when they have developed further.
  • Campaign Selection Process: An implementation-level DAO vote to be held, lasting around 1 week. Campaign Selection Process voting are implementation level votes conducted under the authority granted by this SIP, and do not constitute a separate DAO proposals or require independent SIP approval.
  • Weighted Voting Strategy: DAO members and Delegates can spread their voting power across the Eligible Campaigns. % share of vote for each would then be applied to the Budget. The total SUP allocated to Season 5 SPR Campaigns shall not exceed the budget approved in this proposal.
  • 3% cut-off: Eligible Campaigns with less than 3% of each vote will not be included in Season and SUP votes for them will be redistributed to the successful campaigns on a pro-rata basis.
  • Sub-campaigns: Campaigns which are granted SUP Allocations for Season 5 can then determine distribution of their SUP allocation to their sub-campaigns where applicable.
  • Campaign Start and End dates: Campaigns which are granted SUP Allocations for Season 5 must begin during Season 5, otherwise they will forfeit their allocation and the DAO will retain the allocation. Campaigns should last no longer than 6 months.
  • 5% cap on Campaign earn rate per user: To encourage broad participation and reduce excessive concentration of rewards to only a few earners, a 5% cap will be applied to each users’ share of each Campaign flow rate, subject to feasibility.
  • Insider Participation: To ensure fair and effective use of Ecosystem Campaigns, project and campaign leads are expected not to participate in their own campaigns in ways that generate points or rewards. This includes creating or using accounts, contracts, or donation flows under their control to route activity back to themselves for the purpose of earning campaign rewards. Campaign incentives should be directed toward genuine external users and ecosystem activity.

b. New Project Campaigns

  • Budget: 2,000,000 SUP
  • Invitation to submit Campaign Ideas: To be issued by Foundation team and lasting until the budget for New Project Campaings has been allocated.
  • Eligible Campaign Ideas: Foundation will consult with the Ecosystem Steering Group to select Eligible Campaign Ideas for New Project Campaigns and allocate a portion of the budget, considering the project onboarding (complexity and effort) and impact (users and other benefits).
  • Rolling Onboarding: Eligible New Project Campaigns may be onboarded on a rolling basis throughout Season 5

c. Community Campaigns

  • Budget: 3,000,000 SUP
  • Implementation: Superfluid Foundation Marketing team to develop and launch these during Season 5

7. Steps to Implement and Timelines

  • DAO vote on this proposal - 26 January > 8 February

  • Established Project Campaigns
    – Invitation to submit Campaign Ideas: 16 February - 22 February
    – Eligibility assessment: 23 February
    – Campaign Selection Vote: 23 February - 1st March
    – Season 5 Start & End Date: expected March > May

  • New Project Campaigns: Invitation to submit Campaign Ideas, Eligibility assessment, Rolling Onboarding from 16 February

8. Overall Cost

  • DAO SUP emissions: up to 15,000,000 SUP
  • Operational Costs: covered by existing Foundation resources

quick question… when it comes to b.) new project campaigns…. is it currently still open until feb 8th to submit a proposal? i was wondering who i would speak to within the ecosystem steering group to find out if i would even be able to submit my mini-app proposal, without the app being launched yet? i am looking at a few week timeline to get it up and live but want to run everything through here first, as a main component of my mini-app will be integration with superfluid for live payment streams. it is an idea that i don’t think i’ve seen anyone even come close to proposing yet, so i know it will be way different than the current line up of ecosystem projects/platforms/mini-apps.

my “team” is currently myself, and the complexity and effort is quite complex on both fronts, however i think that the impact it will have on users, etc will be very positive.

Hey @normancomics.eth

You can share your idea any time in the Forum General category here. Feel free to start a thread there and get a discussion going.

This proposal - including the New Project Campaigns budget and Ecosystem Steering Group - are not formalised yet and subject to DAO approval. Timelines of next steps for the proposal listed here.

A note on this…

Given that the first team & investors unlock cliff should be happening around February 19 (source: Discord ), I think it will be very important for the public to see that the new season’s campaigns are kicked off reliably and timely.

The start of the current season felt somewhat shaky in this regard, with announcements being made on X about events that didn’t happen, or only happened later. While development can be an uncertain business, I think we can all agree that communication is important for a project like this.

Any thoughts on how to handle the coincidence of the team unlock cliff and the launch of Season 5 such that it does not unsettle anyone more than it needs to?

Thank for raising this @joanbp.

Just to clarify, the investor and team allocation cliff unlock is not operationally linked to SPR. Superfluid vesting schedules are automatic and don’t involve any DAO or Foundation actions at the time they occur.

The point on communication planning and clarity is well taken. We’ll look into what happened around the Season 4 start messaging on X and Discord and improve on this for Season 5.

i had one additional quick question… is the 2,000,000 $SUP allocation capped at 2,000,000? if your project was ambitious and you planned on more expenses, as well as wanting to use a main portion of the $SUP tokens gained towards platform LP’s, alongside basic expenses, would users/proposal authors be able to request a higher amount?

Hi @normancomics.eth - under this proposal, the SUP budget for New Project Campaigns would be capped at 2m for Season 5.

Full Support from $TYSM + Thoughts on the Steering Group

Hi everyone, nomadicframe here from the $TYSM Ecosystem.

We fully support the evolution of SPR for Season 5.

As a project that has aggressively utilized money streaming to build our “Gratitude Economy” currently sitting at #1 TOKEN (8,700+ HOLDERS) on the Streme PLATFORM (1875+ STAKERS) and #1 on the Rewards Leaderboard we have seen firsthand how powerful these incentives are for user retention and on-chain activity.

Specific feedback on the proposal:

  1. Ecosystem Steering Group: We strongly endorse the formation of this group. Integrating the insights of builders who have successfully navigated the “zero to one” phase of streaming implementation is a high-ROI move for the Foundation. We would be honored to contribute our experience here if called upon.

  2. 5% Cap on User Flow: This is a healthy guardrail. For an ecosystem to thrive, rewards must flow to the many, not just concentrate among the few. This aligns perfectly with our ethos of “Gratitude Shared = Gratitude Multiplied.”

  3. Insider Participation Rules: Clear boundaries here are essential for long-term credibility. We support the move to ensure incentives are strictly directed toward genuine external user activity.

$TYSM is ready to submit our Established Project Campaign idea. We look forward to Season 5.

Hi @nomadicframe - under this proposal, TYSM could apply to be considered as a new project, subject to the proposal passing and the timelines listed above. Established projects are defined here in the proposal and their past and ongoing campaigns are listed here at claim.superfluid.org

@normancomics.eth for clarity, the New Project Campaigns Budget of 2,000,000 SUP under this proposal is the total budget for all New Project Campaigns. How that would be distributed is defined here.

So by voting for this proposal, I am easing the onboarding of new projects.

After 14 days we receive feedback on the final results of this proposal? And when is the submission for New Project Proposals for onboarding begin?

Hi @dopamino ! I’ve been following the forum on SIP-11 and just cast my vote on Snapshot.

I’m a big supporter of the $TYSM, as I believe it’s a vital part of the Gratitude Economy within our ecosystem. However, reading through the proposal, it’s not entirely clear to me: is the inclusion of specific projects like $TYSM already confirmed for Season 5, or is that a separate decision made by the Council/Core team?

Would love some clarification on how the final lineup is decided! Thanks for the great work on this season. :folded_hands:
