Season 3 Ideas - Funding Cracked Devs on Farcaster

Season 3 Ideas - Funding Cracked Devs on Farcaster

1. Project Name

  • Flow Caster

2. Project Description

  • Streaming donations to a self-curated list of 78 cracked Farcaster devs through a streamlined mini app

3. Website

4. How does the project use Superfluid?

  • Super tokens streaming through a Superfluid distribution pool

5. Team Members

6. Social Links

7. Dune dashboard (if available)

  • N/A

8. Contract Addresses

  • To-be-deployed GDA on Base

9. Networks

  • Base

10. SuperTokens Used

  • USDCx on Base

11. Total Superfluid Volume

  • Pre Launch

12. Total Users

  • Pre Launch

13. Current Daily Active Users

  • Pre Launch

14. Current Superfluid Volume

  • Pre Launch

15. Fee Structure

  • At checkout, we’re including an option to donate a % of the proposed stream to our team.

16. User Personas

  • Farcaster users (Subscribers) - Farcaster users are web3 natives. There is a strong culture of rewarding builders and creators on the platform. They are responsive to incentives and trying new onchain products.
  • Farcaster Devs (Recipients) - The builders recipients were selected through a self-curation experiment introduced by Hats Protocol called Curie. We think providing streaming funding to these developers and exposing them to the ecosystem can help inspire more Superfluid mini app builds.

17. KPI to be incentivised by SUP

  • Volume streamed (linear SUP XP per $1 streamed)
  • Sharing donations/the mini app on the Feed (1-time SUP XP bonus per user)
  • Joining the Flow State & Superfluid channels (1-time SUP XP bonus per user)

Product Overview

Flow Guilds and Flow Splitters are tools originally developed and deployed on Flow State. We’ve used them to collect & distribute ~47K USD equivalent to open source builders from our website. We’ve done a good job carving out our niche as the “streaming funding people” within public goods funding circles

We believe there’s an opportunity to increase distribution, improve UX, and inspire a strategic cohort of builders to join the Superfluid ecosystem by bringing this tool to Farcaster in mini app form.

We’ve added Curie’s self-curated list of 78 “Cracked Farcaster Devs” to a Flow Splitter (Superfluid distribution pool under the hood) and made opening a streaming donation to them fun and easy. Our goal is to distribute as much streaming funding to these builders as possible, so our primary use for this SUP campaign is to reward users based on their cumulative donation volume.

We’ve adapted the UX of our Flow Splitter/Flow Guild products to take advantage of Farcaster’s unique attributes and culture. We’ve streamlined the checkout experience to a single Super Token donation. We prominently feature the builders’ (often recognizable) profile pictures in our main visualization. This reinforces the impact of the user’s donation stream and helps demonstrate the power of Superfluid distribution pools (i.e. a single transaction starts a continuous funding stream to support 78 deserving builders).

We’ve added a leaderboard and prominent “King of the Hill” placement for the current top funder’s profile picture on the homepage. We’ll continue to explore ways to gamify donations and play to Farcaster’s culture of celebrating builders and those who fund them. We’re also leveraging dynamic embeds for all share-to-feed functionality to promote distribution & pull through. Mini app notifications will help improve engagement and UX (e.g. balance top-up reminders).

We’re on track to have the app launched before the end of SUP S3 voting, so we’ll keep this post updated with live links, screenshots, and stats.

We can adapt this mini-app structure to support existing Flow Guilds on Flow State.

Hey Graven!

Really like this idea. I think it’ll work really well in bringing more developers into the Superfluid ecosystem.

What do you think about using USND on Arbitrum as the main token here?
Maybe as a secondary option at least?

Also really like the “King of the Hill” idea. Leaderboards and gamified “status” is always a great idea.

Would love to see some screenshots of the app!

We started development before the USND launch, but we’ll definitely support it. Optimizing the checkout UX with USND on Arbitrum means prioritizing a swap functionality and maybe gas sponsorship since Base is the dominant network & USDC is the Farcaster tips currency.

We went live with our Flow Caster mini app today!

We’re up to almost $4.6k USDCx/mo stream rate at the end of Day 1. That definitely exceeded our expectations. It’s a strong welcome to the Superfluid ecosystem for the Cracked Farcaster Devs, and their feedback has been really positive.

There is 2.6M Season 2 SUP up for grabs over the next 60 days for donating and interacting with the mini app already, so make sure to give it a spin. We look forward to expanding the number of recipient groups and adding more curation features in the app as we roll into S3. If you’re a SUP voter, consider allocating to Flow State in the S3 Snapshot Vote, so we can keep this train moving!

That escalated quickly.

We officially have the cracked devs attention. The current stream rate is over $54k/mo or ~$665/mo per dev.

Clearly, $SUP incentives are driving donations. The stream rate won’t be up only along the way, but this is working exactly as we hoped.

No matter what, that is real streaming money moving to talented devs. We’re creating enough interest to break through the noise. Now we onboard these Cracked Farcaster Devs to become Cracked Superfluid Devs and iterate on the Flow Caster experience (more gamified SUP, active curation, other guilds, etc).

Vote for us in the S3 SUP Snapshot if you want to see more of this.

This is the part I’m particularly interested in.
What kind of plans do you have here?

We’ve started conversations with the Superfluid team and others in the ecosystem (including you/Streme now) to put together an onboarding kit to speed their path to becoming familiar with the protocol, provide templates/best practicies for building, seed ideas for things to build, highlight opportunities for additional ecosystem support, and encourage collaboration/composability with other existing apps in the ecosystem.

This info exists in docs and the heads of people that have been around for a while, but we want to roll out the welcome mat.

Hello Graven,

this campaign seems to be going very well, and I’m seeing lots of donors piling into the campaign.

Can you give an update on figures so far and maybe let us know if there’s any other outcome from it? What has been the dev’s response to this been?

For sure!

We’ve been holding strong at $12.5k to $14.6k/mo stream rate for the last week. We’re at $10.9k cumulative streamed so will be over $11k by the time you’re reading this.

The devs have been pumped to receive the support and we’re engaging with a subset to implement some self-curation and/or incentive mechanisms for the devs to start actively contributing to the Superfluid ecosystem–with open source contributions or with new Superfluid-powered apps. We’d love for this to be a bottom-up effort (more legitimacy, more durable), but we might need to start with some explicit top-down “bounties” (in the form of extra shares in the GDA) to kickstart things. I’ll have an update by the end of the week after a meeting with a couple of the Cracked Devs.

In other news, we are in talks with an ecosystem to run a sponsored “campaign” targeting a different dev group within the app. Supporting multiple networks, tokens, and recipient groups has therefore been our primary dev focus. This ties back to our “streaming grants programs” roots and would be a nice next step in our roadmap to make streaming rewards “the next thing” on Farcaster.
